Breaking In

“If I could just break into (the Hollywood of my craft), then I’d be happy.”

It’s possible to break in by being picked over many other candidates. Possible, but unlikely. The picker could have dozens of reasons for not picking you.

It’s possible to break in by honing your craft, having your work speak for itself. Possible, but unlikely. The listeners could have dozens of reasons for not listening to your work.

If you don’t get picked, you get to blame them. If they don’t listen to your work, you get to say that your work is misunderstood.

Or for both cases, you can continue to cultivate quality, climb the tiny mountains, and realize that you’ve broken in by creating something (no matter how crappy) each day.

If you’re on the street to perform your mime routine, congratulations. You’ve broken into the world of mimes.
