Care has no skill ceiling

But compliance does. We’ve mastered compliance. We’ve reached the skill ceiling of doing what we’re told. And we reached it when we were in the first grade, so now we need to move on to something else.

What do we master next?

Care. Care has no skill ceiling (besides being too familiar with a stranger).

Care is asking a customer if they prefer smokey coffee over buttery coffee. Not because you’ve been assigned the task of selling (mentioning) more smokey coffee, but because if they do like smokey coffee, then they’ve gotta try the dark roast that you’ve been drinking for the past three mornings.

Care is taking something that exists today, or something you’ve made that didn’t exist yesterday, and sharing it with somebody whom you know would share the same excitement that you feel. It’s “how did you know that I’d like that?”
