How is it that the same creatures who gave themselves permission to make the cathedrals can just as easily deny themselves permission to make beautiful things?
The creators of the cathedrals were in the zone. They never quit because this is stupid and it’ll never work and nobody wants this.
And when you start thinking that this is stupid and it’ll never work and nobody wants this, then you’ve entered the anti-zone.
The anti-zone is made out of pride. If you ask a blocked creative why they can’t make art, they’ll answer, “I know exactly why.”
The zone is made out of humility. If you ask a top performer what they were thinking when they were in the zone, they usually answer, “I have no idea what I was thinking.”
So we have two choices: pride or humility? Either one is fine, because choosing one will teach you a lesson about the other.
