The Goodometer is the gauge that tells us whether or not we’re creating something remarkable.
The Magic Button, when pressed, gives us popup windows that remind us that we’re creating something because we wanted to make a difference/make beautiful things/because Seth Godin told us to.
Neither of these things exist. Even if they did, they’d only get in our way.
And getting in our way is what our best judgement does. Our best judgement is really, really good. We know good art when we see it. So it seems like the right order is to scrap before we edit. But that’s the wrong order. Create first, edit later.
I’m glad that The Goodometer and The Magic Button don’t exist. If they did, I wouldn’t finish anything.
