Beginner’s mind

It’s the semifinals. The expert is exhausted. There’s too much pressure now. The crowd is against them. They’ve been winning too much. They’ve been winning all over the nation. The show is getting repetitive. The game isn’t fun anymore.

The advice from another expert, an expert who still enjoys the game, is to get back to the beginner’s mind.

It’s their first tournament. The beginner is afraid. There’s too much pressure now. The crowd is behind them. The beginner has been showing some promise at home. They can win against their friends in practice. They’ve placed well at a few local tournaments. But now the beginner is afraid. Afraid because, in the eyes of their friends, the beginner is now the expert.
