If the most harmful and traumatic thing you can think of happening to you is sitting with a doctor who doesn’t refer to you by your preferred pronouns, or doesn’t call you a ‘birthing person,’ then consider yourself utterly privileged and blessed not to be living in a country where it’s acceptable to throw gay people off the roofs of buildings, where the concept of ‘gay’ itself is oppressed through bloodshed.
America is losing the oppression Olympics. And thank God for that. Thank God that the most painful thing the corporate press tells us to be afraid of is hate speech and unconscious racist bias.
Things could be – things are – much worse, much elsewhere.
