Self-Criticism: Fanning the Flames

In private I’m very hard on myself. I often have trouble getting out of bed in the morning – imaginary negative comments press down on me like a weighted blanket. It’s because I so often bruise with self-critique that I’d rather not fan the flames of somebody else’s low sense of self-worth. For all I know, their private opinions of themselves could be more severe than mine. They could be punching their own guts with tighter fists, landing blows too close to the bone.
